BROKEN HOURS
At more than one point I decided I wasn’t up to doing this remix; I wasn’t feeling it, wasn’t getting anywhere with it, and told more than one person that I was giving up on it. As the deadline approached, a few things brought me around, one being the Thanksgiving holiday. Another was my allegiance to Gang of Four, whom I have consistently referred to as the greatest Rock band ever. Figure in my refusal to fail and the prospect, albeit slim, of my winning, and I decided to begin again. I am pleased with the work and a bit surprised at how well it holds together; although it doesn’t contain every idea I had, there is an acceptable ratio of content to vision. My tendency in remixing an existing song is to use only the original stems and preserve the original songwriting to a large extent - I prefer “arranging” to radically remixing. This may be a disadvantage in a so-called “remix contest” but the result is more satisfying for me.
